My fee range for therapy or supervision is usually £75-150 but I can sometimes offer reduced fee therapy. I work in Islington and the nearest tubes are no more than 6 minutes walk away: Holloway Road and Caledonian Road (which is only one stop from Kings Cross which makes it easy to get to me from many parts of London). My office is wheelchair accessible. There is ample pay-and-display parking always available.

How I work

For almost forty years, I’ve been evolving a unique clinical blend of post-Jungian, relational psychoanalytic and humanistic approaches to therapy work.

I regard myself as very much ‘in’ the therapy alongside my client and I try to let the client’s own pace and rhythm guide the therapy. If something more directive is needed, or if the problem is lack of information, then I’d work accordingly.

People often ask how long therapy takes and my reply is that you should think in terms of years not months, but not necessarily all that many years. I usually see people once or twice per week. Therapy is generally face-to-face but I will adapt if, for example, a client in therapy has a job that involves a lot of travel. Then we can Skype or speak on the phone.

I am an experienced supervisor, recognised by many training organisations. Supervision can be face-to-face or on the phone.

More about me

I have been working as a therapist and analyst for over 40 years so I am experienced in many areas such as: relationships, sexuality, gender issues, depression, eating disorders, work problems, study problems, and loss of a sense of meaning and purpose in life. I am also interested in working with people from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds and members of sexual minorities.

I am recognised internationally as one of the leading commentators from a psychotherapeutic perspective on political and social problems. My work on spirituality, the father, sexuality and countertransference has also been widely appreciated.

I am a past chair of the UK Council for Psychotherapy, a co-founder of Psychotherapists and Counsellors for Social Responsibility and also of the Alliance for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I was a Founder Board Member of the International Association for Relational Psychothoanalysis and Psychothrapy. I am Professor of Analytical Psychology at Essex and hold visiting chairs at New York, London, Roehampton and Macau Universities.

My books have been translated into 21 languages:

Jung and the Post-Jungians (1985), The Father (1986), Critical Dictionary of Jungian Analysis (1986), The Plural Psyche: Personality, Morality and the Father (1989), Psychopathology (1989), The Political Psyche (1993), the award-winning Politics on the Couch: Citizenship and the Internal Life (2001), Persons, Passions, Psychotherapy, Politics (2014), and A New Therapy for Politics?
